It is with great sadness that we announce that the BAUER Pottery Company of Los Angeles is formally announcing the end of their agreement to produce the Russel Wright American Modern Dinnerware line. This will take effect on October 31, 2025.
This brings an end to a partnership that began in 2008 and has produced tens of thousands of high quality ceramics. We have, over the years, taken immense pride and honour in partnering for a second time with the Wright family name. Customers will have a final chance to own these iconic designs made by a renowned manufacturer through the end of October 2025.
Our first partnership goes back to the 1940’s where BAUER and Mary Wright came together to produce the Country Gardens line of ceramics. This line, unfortunately, was not well received and would be retired shortly after going into production. The Wrights later went on to produce many successful lines under the driving belief that the dinner table was the centerpiece of the home.
The BAUER Pottery Company successfully brought the production of the Russel Wright American Modern collection back to the United States. The previous manufacturer did the collection a disservice by moving production abroad, sacrificing quality and integrity for mass production capabilities. American Modern was then available at several big-box stores, namely Bed Bath and Beyond as well as other major retailers.
In the years since, the original Russel Wright line by BAUER Pottery has become a highly sought after collectible. In 2008, Janek Boniecki, current owner of the BAUER Brand, negotiated a partnership with Manitoga, The Russel Wright Design Center, to become the exclusive manufacturer of Russel Wright American Modern. Utilizing iconic Russel Wright designs, BAUER pottery formulated many of the original glazes deemed popular by Russel Wright collectors. Our team also enhanced the collection by updating the palette to include popular BAUER colours.
As we wind down this partnership and our production of these timeless designs, we want to thank everyone who has supported our passion for bringing back the American Modern Collection. We are a small, independently run business led by a dedicated team. It remains unclear who our successor will be, but we hope the production will remain here in the United States.
